Activities

Often referred to as Eilean a Cheo (misty isle), it's true that the skies can sometimes be grey and overcast. But there's never really a dull day when it comes to activities and things to do.

From the house walks extend in all directions. An all-abilities footpath runs past the front door and travels 17 km across the island. An excellent 8 km circular walk can be taken past the pier and along the shore where there is good chance of seeing otters, buzzards, owls, a variety of diving ducks. And perhaps a glimpse of a white-tailed sea eagle.

For the more energetic the towering bulk of Beinn na Cailleach (680m) provides a deceptively steep climb over boulders and scree. But the summit, reputedly the burial place of a Danish princess, provides extraordinary views of Kintail, the main Cuillin ridge and Raasay. Allow 4-5hrs in clear weather.

Within short drives visitors can explore the Clan Donald Centre, the Talisker Distillery, the Aros Skye Visitor Centre at Portree as well as sample award-winning restaurants and hotels.

A visit to Broadford's serpentarium or a trip out into the bay in the glass-bottom boat, is a must for children of all ages.

In the spring the paddle steamer Waverley calls in at the pier for unforgettable day trips to Portree, Torridon and Glenelg.

For the angler there is a wealth of quality game fishing for salmon and trout, while boats are available for hire for sea fishing. There is a free slipway at the pier just half a mile from the house and ample parking in the garden for a boat and trailer.
