Setting

Broadford nestles in the foothills of the Red Cuillins and lies along the southern shore of a sweeping bay just 10 miles from the toll-free bridge to the mainland.

It has panoramic views to Kintail, to Pabbay, the Crowlin Islands and the Applecross peninsula, and east to the hills of Ashaig and beyond. The bay itself is home to diverse wildlife from curlew, oystercatcher, dunlin and redshank, ducks and divers to the occasional otter, dolphins and seals. The garden attracts tree creepers, owls, and a wide variety of finches and tits.

The village is the second largest on the Isle of Skye and hosts a supermarket, 24-hour filling station, bank (with cash machine), tourist office, hotels, bars, restaurants and shops selling a range of quality goods from hand-spun woollens to local jewellery and seafood.

Getting there:
Access is straightforward by road, by ferry from either the mainland or the outer isles, by rail or by bus (Scotlink). Light aircraft still use the small airstrip at Ashaig just two miles from the village.

A map of the area is available here.
